Magazine Cover Review

 

The different type of covers and magazines usually fits to how a person is. The front cover of the magazine usually outlines and is a guideline to how the magazine and articles will be. For example, if there is a model in front of the magazine. Most of the article will contain pictures of people modeling. For example, with Orpah, Oprah’s big theme was basically happiness. Throughout the pages of the magazine it will contain how to be happy, happy stuff.

So, what the magazine companies usually do is whatever the big main theme is in the main front page. That is how they’ll do the rest of the magazine. And since people’s attention span is very short, they tend to fill the magazine with pictures and covers. Not only that they have changed the front page of the magazines over time because they noticed a change in people who would read the articles and age group of 35 was recorded to drop from 44% to 28%.

So, what they had to do was make the front pages and words in the front of the magazine all bold and captures your eyes so you can read it. Another reason why magazines are falling off the media spectrum is because there is more available options. For example, your phone is an easy access to any type of article you can get to. There’s twitter, Instagram, and even YouTube where you can get your information from. It is hard to compete with things you already use in your everyday basis and people will be less likely to read a magazine if they already have something handy in their hand. With the Travis Scott article the front part of the magazine has the colors of red, when you would go throughout the pages you would see many variant colors of the red. Vogue on another hand is very high end fashion, when you would go to the next page there would be various types of articles and advertisements trying to promote their brand. For example, Rolex, this type of magazine will attract to one certain type of audience (the wealthy). Or if you were to cook and you love cooking, there was the cooking magazine which included pictures of cooking.

My own personal option of what to do for a portfolio would probably just be what Oprah did, I’ll include a picture of someone smiling on the front cover and then on the rest I would represent the same theme throughout the whole magazine. Information was gathered at “Chances are you won't bother to read this article. It is just one long block of text, after all, unbroken by alluring pictures, snappy captions, or eye-grabbing infographics. You can't click it. You can't flip it. All you can do is read it. (Does Size Matter?)" But, I’ll still most likely pick a movie to do for my portfolio project as the Magazine you can’t do much with it.
